ACTIVISM - GRASSROOTS ACTION

TELL THE TRUTH’ ‘ACT NOW’ ‘DECIDE TOGETHER’ ‘NO NEW FOSSIL FUELS’

1. Extinction Rebellion Worthing (XRW)

- Non hierarchical pressure group with 3 key demands (as above) and a few key principles (Non Violent Direct Action)

  • Some national guidance but the actions and engagements are decided on a local level.

  • Provided it fits with the demands and principles, can organise anything with one or more volunteers, there is a lot of flexibility which depends on persons

  • We 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month - CREW (opposite Iceland) – informal discussion and reflection, some general planning.

  • A lot of the actual planning and organisation takes place in sub-groups. Currently at XRW the following are relatively active – OUTREACH (!), DIRTY WATER, PERFORMANCE Group.

  • Join Us in a Group or event even set up a new one: Parents Group, Youth Group, Music Group? - we would love you to do it!

  • National Demonstrations – over 100,000 gathered together in a coalition of over a 100 groups at the invitation of XR over 4 days in April in London under the banner of Unite to Survive.

3. XRW – Upcoming Actions

1. The Spectrum of Climate and Green Action Groups -Take your Pick!

Find out which organisation best fits your commitments, interests and style and join up!

You can make a time commitment that suits your circumstances from occasional events to an hour or so a week.

Good Links here to regional based groups by County and town:

https://seclimatealliance.uk/about/

But also National Action groups such as: Just Stop Oil, Green Peace, Friends of the Earth and many, many more.

Some are disruptive (JSO) as that is what they believe is necessary to draw attention to the climate crisis we are facing, others have focused campaigns on climate issues of global significance such as ocean protection (Green Peace) and social justice (Friends of the Earth). But all issues overlap and all groups align with only the type of action that differs and style of organisation that differs.

b. Eat more plants, fewer animals - Harvard Health

https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/eat-more-plants-fewer-animals-2018112915198
