who cycling

1. efficient

Cycling is a quick way to travel in urban communities.

2. improves physical and mental health

The heath benefits are well known, improving health about 33% (similar to most exercise). If 50 % cycle community health will improve nearly 15%.

3. Pollution and noise

about 50% reduced, with less disease from particulates and noise.

4. Cheap

Cycling is cheap, road maintaince will be cheaper.

5. Highly recommended

Endorsed by WHO, UN, and many UK and European towns.

6. Less traffic..buses will flow more easily

With less traffic and fewer traffic jams buses will be much quicker and more reliable.

7. Popular

Many more people want to cycle but are currently too scared, due to the amount and speed of traffic, often very close to bicycles.

8. Youth engagement

Reduces screen use and improves social skills among young people.

9. Economy

Boosts local spending, reduces absenteeism, creates jobs.

10. Community benefits: reduces inequality

Particularly beneficial for poorer communities. Increases social capital, and people go out more to join activities and see friends.

11. Net Zero targets

It will be impossible to reach council Net Zero targets unless we reduce car use. And without reaching Net Zero, we will get ever warmer, with forest fires in the South downs, Littlehampton underwater, poor harvests, and more forced migration from disaster areas.

12. Climate action

80% of us are worried about the impending climate disaster, and 90% of us want more government and council action.
