Wick pride consultation
- the £ should be spent 'ALL' on people, that is youth workers, community workers, mental health, teaching cooking etc, and their training and support
- the money should NOT be spent on new buildings...like the waste of money new pavement on the high street. NO new furniture..reduce and reuse.
- there are plenty of empty or partly used properties that could house activities.
- some £ should be spent linking the community, young people and others, to the educational and training colleges and universities in the immediate wider area, and binging the skills back into the community
- thus youth clubs, youth sports, art, music, dancing, cooking, mental health clubs, detox support, 'minor crime' 'probation officers' and so on, mainly for younger people but for others also, are needed..but not in brand new buildings.
- we need £20 mph limits for the ENTIRE area to slow speeds down and making walking and cycling safer and more popular. And a way of enforcing this. (Police may object to cameras etc....but they dont care about residents, they bring up a load of reasons why not!)
- We need cycle routes that join up and are safe for 11y olds to cycle independently...speeds can get very high..but most of the money should go on people as above.
- We need noise cameras ...one on Arundel rd should suffice (perhaps one other), .. there are many noisy cars and bikes..and noise causes ill health and depression.
- We need more community policing...crime rates are lower with more community police
- Buses.. i dont know about these , ask a user (I walk and cycle)
- My councillor (Butcher) is aware of the area's problems
- Mini gardens/flower beds, at the side of roads, looked after by residents
- have (voluntary/unpaid) street wardens..so each warden would be trained to try and encourage people not to leave litter, and address antisocial behaviour directly or reporting to the designated community policemen..
- and there should be a community policeman
- no advertising in the area for unhealthy foods etc
- vape shops, off licences, fast food shops..limit the number and opening times
- zebra crossings at the in/out of each roundabout entrance, exit to make it easer and quicker for pedestrians and cyclists
- use a little of the budget to draw up a long term plan for people in the area in all aspects of their lives; later this should include designing a cycle route plan for the area, safe for every 11y old alone..to get to school, youth club, library and beach and swimming pool
- Literacy, maths .. learning clubs
- make parking spaces smaller to encourage smaller cars . Give plenty of notice ? 2 years notice
- improve the parks and public spaces, again looked after by residents, with new trees on streets without trees
20 a local library.. open a least a few hours a week (the Littlehampton library is excellent but not that many people from Wick use it.)
- Funds to support swimming lessons for those with no £
- Better facilities for citizens advice so they can work more efficiently
- Loneliness
